Network Registration for Cornell Visitors

Every computer using the Cornell University network, wired or wireless, must be registered with contact information for the person using the computer. This enables the Network Operations Center to reach the right people quickly in the event of a problem, such as a rapidly spreading virus. Online registration is fast, easy, and automatic.

You will be asked for your:
Name
E-mail address
Length of visit
Cornell unit (optional)
Purpose of visit (optional)
  1. Register: When you first use your web browser on the Cornell University network, you will be shown a web page asking for identification information, including an e-mail address. Once you provide this information, Cornell's network remains configured to serve your computer for the rest of the day.
  2. Confirm: You will receive a confirmation e-mail, with a URL where you can confirm your registration. Once you confirm your registration, the Cornell network remains configured to serve your computer for the length of your visit, up to three weeks.

Public Ports: If you register your computer on a public port that permits access by any computer, your registration can be used on any network that offers visitor access.

Departmental Networks: If you are visiting a specific Cornell college or department, consult the IT support staff there. Departmental networks may or may not allow visitor registration, and may require a passcode. Your host department may prefer to have a network administrator register your computer for you.

Longer visits: If you need to continue using the network for longer than you initially stated (maximum of three weeks), you can re-register your computer when the registration web page reappears.

Need help? If you are using a Cornell department's local network, the IT support staff there will be best able to assist you. Otherwise, call the CIT Contact Center (HelpDesk) at 255-8990, or send e-mail to helpdesk@cornell.edu.
