Troubleshooting Ethernet Connections on Mac OS
Problem: My ethernet internet connection is not working.
Solution: This problem can be caused by many factors. There is a general method to discover where the problem lies.
- Make sure the ethernet cord is plugged firmly into the wall and into your computer.
- Can you access the internet in any of your internet applications? If you can access your email through Eudora, but cannot connect in Netscape, the problem is not your internet connection. If no applications can connect, then there is a problem with the connection.
- Check your TCP/IP settings in the TCP/IP Control Panel from the Apple Menu. If they look correct, write down all the contents of the fields. If you have multiple configurations, be sure to copy them all. Then, delete the TCP/IP Preferences which reside in the Preferences folder of the System Folder of your Hard Drive. Then, restart your computer and go back into the TCP/IP Control Panel and re-enter all your information.
- If this does not correct the problem, you may want to contact the HelpDesk or your network administrator.
