Interference and RedRover signal disruption

User Experience

Devices or machinery that generate interference between the Wi-Fi transmitter and your computer can impair or block your connection to RedRover. CIT makes every effort to keep RedRover transmitting. However, because Wi-Fi operates in unregulated space, numerous types of devices can disrupt the signal.

Some of the items that interfere with Wi-Fi include:

  • Leaky microwave ovens
  • 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz cordless telephones
  • 2.4 GHz wireless cameras
  • Wireless video/audio transmitters that operate in the 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands; for example, video transceivers
  • Unregistered wireless access points

This list is not exhaustive; other devices may also interfere with your connection.

These devices do not need to be in close proximity to disrupt your connection to RedRover. A microwave on the floor below can be close enough to cause problems, for example. If you frequently lose your RedRover connection or get an unusally slow connection speed, and you suspect interference is to blame, please report the location to the CIT Contact Center HelpDesk.

How to Solve this Problem

Because there are so many factors that can disrupt Wi-Fi service, if you are conducting work that simply cannot be interrupted, you may want to use a wired connection.
