Usenet Newsgroups:
Help with MT-Newswatcher for the Macintosh

No Newsgroups in MT-NewsWatcher

Problem:When I run MT-NewsWatcher, there are no newsgroups or I cannot post articles.

Solution: In order to use MT-NewsWatcher, you need to first authenticate using SideCar. If you are not getting a prompt for your NetID and password, be sure SideCar is open.

Error type 15 when you try to run Usenet news

Problem:When I run MT-Newswatcher, I get a type 15 error.

Solution: This is usually the result of a corrupted Newswatcher preferences file. Find the file MT-Newswatcher Prefs in the Preferences folder, inside the system folder, and drag it to the trash. Then, try again. This is also know as a Segment Loader Error.

Not enough memory when you use NewsWatcher for the first time

Problem: NewsWatcher gives a memory error the first time it's opened.

Solution: When NewsWatcher runs for the first time, it needs a lot of memory so that it can process the Full Groups List. Try increasing the amount of memory that NewsWatcher requires.

To do this, you must know where NewsWatcher is located. It can be found inside the MT-NewsWatcher f folder within the Bear Access f folder on computers that have had Bear Access installed. Highlight MT-NewsWatcher and go to the File menu, and slide down to the option "Get Info". Within the new information window that opens, change the option from "General Information" to "Memory" Then try increasing the preferred memory size in increments of 500K. Close the Information window and launch Newswatcher again. If the error persists, repeat the process of allocating more memory until the error does not occur.
